The Second Coming

Jesus Observes the Feast of Tabernacles

Now let’s take a look at Tabernacles during Jesus’ time:

John 7:2-4 – and the feast of the Jews was nigh – that of tabernacles – his brethren, therefore, said unto him, ‘Remove hence, and go away to Judea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works that thou dost; for no one in secret doth anything, and himself seeketh to be in public; if thou dose these things – manifest thyself to the world;’ (YLT)

If this passage, the Feast of Tabernacles began, and Jesus’ brothers told him to go in public to advertise and market Himself. His brothers thought if he made a show of his powers during the Feast of Tabernacles, people would believe Him. However, look at the response Jesus gave:

John 7:6-10 – Jesus, therefore saith to them, ‘My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready; the world is not able to hate you, but me it doth hate, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil. Ye – go ye up to this feast; I do not yet go up to this feast, because my time hath not yet been fulfilled;’ and saying these things to them, he remained in Galilee. And when his brethren went up, then also he himself went up to the feast, not manifestly, but as in secret; (YLT)

Jesus said that it was not yet His time to make Himself public knowledge and take His rightful position as the king of kings. He said that His true identity should be kept a secret for now. Jesus was speaking prophetically. Remember that this was during the end of the Age of Passover, where God only operated on a small scale. It would not be His time till the beginning of the Age of Tabernacles when he came again. These verses gives us a picture of what the second coming will be like:

Malachi 3:1-3 – Lo, I am sending My messenger, And he hath prepared a way before Me, And suddenly come in unto his temple Doth the Lord whom ye are seeking, Even the messenger of the covenant, Whom ye are desireing, Lo, he is coming, said Jehovah of Hosts. And who is bearing the day of his coming? And who is standing in his appearing? For he [is] as fire of a refiner, And as soap of a fuller. And he hath sat, a refiner and purifer of silver, And he hath purified the sons of Levi, and hath refined them as gold and as silver, And thy have been to Jehovah bringing nigh a present in righteousness. (YLT)

Matthew 24:27 – for as the lightning doth come forth from the east, and doth appear unto the west, so shall be also the presence of the Son of Man; (YLT)

As we can see from this verses, Jesus will come suddenly and everyone will see him like lightning in the sky. He will be like a refiner, purifying people like gold and silver. Here are even more verses about the second coming:

John 7:37-38 – And in the last, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, ‘If any one doth thirst, let him come unto me and drink; and who is believing in me, according as the Writing said, Rivers out of his belly shall flow of living water; (YLT)

Joel 2:23 – And ye sons of Zion, joy and rejoice, In Jehovah your God, For He hath given to you the Teacher for righteousness, And causeth to come down to you a shower, Sprinkling and gathered – in the beginning. (YLT)

Joel 2:28 – And it hath come to pass afterwards, I do pour our My Spirit on all flesh, And prophesied have your sons and your daughters, Your old men do dream dreams, Your young men do see visions. (YLT)

All of these verses are talking about the second coming. It is only when Jesus comes again that his Spirit will be poured out like rain on everyone causing great joy. This will be greater and more powerful then in the Ages of Passover or Pentecost. Notice in John 7 that Jesus said this on the eighth day of the Feast of Tabernacles. This is prophetic of the second coming during the Age of Tabernacles.
