The Meaning of Numbers 10-19

This is a continuation of our study on numbers. Again, I will not go into detailed symbolism here. Click on the links to see the related articles I wrote.

Ten
Biblical meaning: divine order
Hebrew word: yod (closed hand, deed, work)
Significance: the fulfillment of divine judgment and law
Examples:
1. Gen. 15:19-21 – the ten nations given to Abram
2. Ex. 7-12 – the ten plagues of Egypt
3. Ex. 20:2-17, Deut. 5:6-21 – The Ten Commandments, divided differently in each Christian Denomination
4. Ex. 30:12-16 – atonement money of ten gerahs
5. Num. 14:22 – Israel rebels ten times against God
6. Deut. 23:3 – Ammonites and Moabites were banned from entering the congregation of God for ten generations
7. Matt. 25:1-12 – the parable of the ten virgins
8. Rev. 13:1, Daniel 7:7 – the ten horns of The Beast

Other:
- fire came down from heaven – this happens ten times in the Bible: Gen. 19:24, Lev. 9:24, Lev. 10:2, Num. 11:1, Num 16:35, 1 Kings 18:38, 2 Kings 1:10, 2 Kings 1:12, 1 Chron. 21:26, 2 Chron. 7:1

- ten words of Psalm 119 – every verse in Psalm 119 except verse 122 includes one or more of these ten words: way, testimony, precept, commandment, laying, law, judgment, righteous, statue, word

- I am – Jesus said “I am” ten times in the book of John: 6:35, 6:41, 6:51, 8:12, 8:18, 10:7, 10:9, 10:14, 14:6, 15:1,5

Eleven
Biblical meaning: imperfection, disorder, incomplete
Hebrew words: yod-aleph (hand, strength)
Examples:
1. Gen. 10:15-18 – Canaan had eleven sons
2. Gen. 36:40-43 – the eleven chiefs of Edom
3. Deut. 1:2 – the journey from Horeb to Kadesh Barnea took eleven days
4. Judges 16:5 – the princes of the Philistines paid Delilah eleven hundred silverlings to persuade Samson
5. Judges 17:1-3 – Micah returns eleven hundred silverlings to his mother
6. 2 Kings 23:36, 2 Chron. 36:5 – Johoiakim reigned eleven years
7. 2 Chron. 36:11, Jerem. 52:1 – Zedekiah reigned eleven years

Twelve
Biblical meaning: governmental perfection, authority
Hebrew words: yod-beth (hand, divine authority)
Significance: the household working under divine perfection, The Barley Overcomers
Examples:
1. Gen. 29-35 – the twelve sons of Jacob (Israel)
2. Matt, Mark, Luke, John – the twelve disciples (apostles) of Jesus
3. 1 Chron. 27:1 – David’s army of 288,000 (12 x 12 x 1000 x 2)
4. Rev. 4:4 – the 24 elders (12 x 2)
5. Rev. 7:4, Rev. 14:3-5 – the 144,000 (12 x 12 x 1000) barley overcomers
6. Rev. 21:12-21 – New Jerusalem will have 12 gates, 12 messengers, 12 foundations, 12 pearls, and is 144 (12 x 12) cubits high
